A working meeting with the Ambassadors of EU Member States and the Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Sofia was held today upon the invitation of Minister of Justice Ms. Tsetska Tsacheva. The meeting was also attended by the Interior Minister Mr. Mladen Marinov and the representative of the Supreme Judicial Council Mr. Boyan Magdalinchev. The topic of the discussion was the European Commission report on the achievements of Bulgaria under the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism published on 13 November 2018.
Minister Tsacheva thanked the European Commission and the Member States for the good cooperation and the objective assessment and findings of the report that three of the six benchmarks may be considered provisionally closed.
The Bulgarian institutions provided detailed information about the actions already being taken to implement the other benchmarks. The Minister of Justice expressed the resolution to achieve irreversible and sustainable results leading to the final closing of all benchmarks.
The representatives of the diplomatic missions to Sofia reported the progress achieved and welcomed the approach chosen by Bulgaria to inform them about the specific actions in relation to the other three benchmarks. Minister Tsacheva expressed the hope that the principle of assessment based one’s merits and performance would be observed as well as the timeline specified in the report that the Mechanism would be completed by the end of the term of office of the Commission in 2019, taking into account the fact that three of the six benchmarks had been provisionally closed.
